The
Pharmacology and Molecular Therapeutics Study Program offers third year
medical students an in-depth, mentored basic and/or translational
research experience. Faculty members in this study track come from
numerous departments, including Biochemistry, Biology, Cell Biology,
Medicine, Molecular Genetics and Microbiology, Obstetrics and
Gynecology, Pediatrics, and Pharmacology & Cancer Biology. Faculty
in the program focus on determining mechanisms of human disease,
targeting signal transduction pathways for the treatment of human
disease and determining how drugs affect humans.
The
major emphasis of the PMT program is on a student-generated research
project conducted in close association with a faculty mentor. In
addition, a weekly seminar series, the Signal Transduction Colloquium,
exposes participating students to a variety of topics presented by
experts in the various relevant fields of research. Finally, with the
permission of their mentor and study program director, students may
take course work to complement their research interests or future
career goals.
