Clinical Interests:
Psychopharmacology and psychotherapy for child and adolescents withpost-traumatic stress disorder and related problems
Research Interests:
My research focus is on psychological trauma and exposure to violence in children and adolescents. My current interests in this area span not only the epidemiological search for assessment of risk factors, protective factors, and treatment effects, but also to assess if children with sequela from violence and trauma are able to access and utilize appropriate services. Specifically for child victims of trauma, I seek to integrate a developmental framework into available research tools and methodology. Currently I am involved in a number of research projects: 1) Family and Child functioning in children whose parents have PTSD; 2) Developmental and implementation of a manualized multimodal treatment package for children exposed to trauma; 3) Longitudinal follow-up of children exposed to child maltreament (LONGSCAN) and 4) my most time-consuming and critical endeavor has been the collaborative endeavor with 3 area universities to create a trauma evaluation, treatment and research program as partof a multidisciplinary effort to serve kids exposed to violence and maltreatment. A research database in being into a systematic approach to dealing with traumatized youth.
